Mastering Your Rates

Mid-market API rates are great for baselines, but they rarely match the "street rate" you get at a physical currency exchange kiosk. swapFX solves this by offering two distinct modes inside the settings panel.

Live Auto-Rate

When you need a general idea of global exchange rates, switch to Live Auto-Rate.

• Selecting a new currency pair from the dropdown automatically fetches the latest mid-market data.
• Rates are pulled from a secure currency rate API (ExchangeRate).
• The input field locks to prevent accidental edits while in Live mode.

Manual Override (The Traveler's Best Friend)

When you are standing in a physical shop or kiosk, the real-world exchange rate usually includes a commission or markup. This is where Manual Override comes in.

• Switching to Manual Override unlocks the rate input field.
• Type in the exact exchange rate the kiosk is offering you (e.g., changing an API rate of 0.079 to a street rate of 0.075).
• The app stops trying to fetch data from the internet and strictly enforces your custom math.
• Your manual rate is saved locally so you can use it all day without resetting it.

Advanced Tools for Travelers

swapFX has been engineered with features designed specifically for real-world travel, taking the friction out of foreign math.

🎒 Backpacker Mode (3rd Currency)

Hopping across borders or constantly converting back to your home currency? Open the Settings (⚙️) and select a currency under Backpacker Mode. A third result row will instantly appear, allowing you to view conversions across three different currencies simultaneously.

🏳️ Quick Chips (Recent Pairs)

Don't waste time searching for the same currencies. The app automatically remembers your 3 most recently used currency pairs. Simply tap the visual "flag chips" above the keypad to instantly swap to a recent pair.

🍽️ Smart Tip Calculator

At a restaurant? Tap the +10%, +15%, +20%, or +25% buttons above the keypad. A dedicated green row will slide in, showing you exactly how much the tip is in the local currency (perfect for writing on receipts) and your home currency equivalent. Tap the 0% button or hit the backspace key to quickly return to your base amount.

📳 Haptic Feedback & Fluid Design

We've made the app feel like a premium, native calculator. On supported devices, the custom keypad provides subtle physical "ticks" (vibrations) as you type. Plus, the text sizes automatically scale and adjust to perfectly fit any mobile screen, no matter how large the number gets.

100% Offline Capable

Travelers frequently find themselves in dead zones, subways, or dealing with expensive roaming data. swapFX is built with a sophisticated "Service Worker" that caches the application directly to your device.

• Instant Loading: The app will open immediately, whether you have 5G or zero signal.
• Retained Settings: Your last selected currency pair and manual rates are saved directly to your phone's local storage. If you lose connection, your math will still work perfectly based on your last saved settings.

Total Privacy

swapFX is a pure utility application. We do not track your personal data, and we do not store your conversion history.

• No accounts to create.
• No cloud databases tracking your conversion history.

• Every calculation happens locally on your device.
• 100% Anonymous Analytics: The app sends a single, invisible ping to our server solely to count how many times the app has been installed globally. No personal information, IP addresses, or usage data is ever collected.

swapFX utilizes a third-party API (ExchangeRate) to provide its Live Auto-Rate conversions. By using this tool, you acknowledge:

• Informational Purposes Only: The exchange rates provided are mid-market indicators and are intended for general reference. They do not constitute financial advice.
• Street Rates Differ: Actual exchange rates applied by banks, ATMs, or physical exchange kiosks will include markups and commissions that differ from the live API rates.
• Verification: You should always independently verify exchange rates with your financial institution or the physical vendor before making significant monetary transactions.

2. Limitation of Liability & "As Is" Software

swapFX is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. By using the app, you acknowledge and agree to the following:

• Device-Local Storage: Your custom manual rates and application preferences are stored exclusively on your device's local browser storage. We are not liable for the resetting or loss of these preferences resulting from device failure, clearing of browser caches, or application removal.
• Manual Override Responsibility: You are solely responsible for ensuring the mathematical accuracy of any manual override rates you enter into the application.
• No Warranties: We make no guarantees regarding the continuous availability, error-free operation, or absolute precision of the application or the third-party API data it retrieves.
